This video shows buffalo running along the roadway, supposedly fleeing the park.

(See second, more impressive video at bottom of page.)

I don’t know much about buffalo. Actually, I know pretty much nothing about buffalo.

  • Maybe they simply like to run. I dunno.
  • Maybe they’re celebrating because winter is over. I dunno.
  • Maybe there’s a pack of wolves after them. I dunno.
  • Maybe hunters are after them. I dunno.
  • Maybe the recent 4.8 magnitude earthquake scared them. I dunno.
  • Maybe the abominable snowman is after them. I dunno.
  • Or maybe they know something that humans can’t detect. I dunno.
  • Regardless, it’s an interesting video.
Map from USGS showing extent of volcanic ash after the biggest Yellowstone eruption around 2.1 million years ago. "If another large caldera-forming eruption were to occur at Yellowstone, its effects would be worldwide," says the USGS. Thick ash deposits would bury vast areas of the United States, and injection of huge volumes of volcanic gases into the atmosphere could drastically affect global climate. Fortunately ... the probability of any such event occurring at Yellowstone within the next few thousand years is exceedingly low."

“hahaha I would not call that running for their lives! says reader Tom Tojaka. “They do that all the time around Yellowstone…”

Tom sent this even more impressive video, dated August 27, 2013.

And here’s another from Mike Goad (with “Rawhide” music in the background).
