Winter not over yet in Slovakia

Record low temperatures just three days before the beginning of spring.

In Slovakia on March 18, temperatures were measured at a record minus 29 degrees In Slovakia, the lowest temperature for the entire winter.

The station of the Slovak meteorological service Shmu in Cerveny Klastor District Kezmarok (Käsmark) reported on Sunday morning with the absolute record minus 29 degrees frost this year. “This value is the lowest ever, which could be measured throughout the astronomical winter 2012/2013,” the meteorologists stated on its website.

“It is something very unusual, because it is almost never happens that the lowest air temperature at all during the winter months in Slovakia is measured only in the second half of March,” explained the meteorologists.

Normally, the lowest temperatures are recorded in January or February, not just before the beginning of spring.
