“As of this week, the total area of the Great Lakes that still has ice coverage is down to 38 percent,
says meteorologist Brett Anderson of accuweather.com.
The coverage is shrinking, “but still incredibly high for this time of year.”
This graph from the Canadian Ice Service “clearly shows that the current ice coverage is way above the normal (green line).”
“The second highest since the beginning of the satellite measured era (1980) is much lower at 18 percent back in 1996.”
