The U.S. Navy lost three P-3C Orion maritime patrol/anti-submarine aircraft in Japan after unusually heavy snowfall swept across the island nation in February. The area is not accustomed to heavy snow storms.
The Japanese hanger in which the aircraft were housed collapsed from the extraordinary amount of snowfall on the roof.
Upon examination it was determined that three of the four aircraft in the 550-foot (168-metre)-long hangar were damaged beyond repair. The P-3Cs were in the hangar to receive scheduled maintenance.
There were also six Japanese P-3Cs in the same hangar and four of them were declared total losses.
Heavy snowfall struck across Japan in February, killing 26 people, injuring more than 1,000, and damaging more than 600 houses.
Interesting that it took more than two months for this information to become public. How convenient that it didn’t come out until after the White House released it’s global warming report.
