Prohibiting the thought crime, the heresy, of “denialism”

By Ray Kraft

The mental distress that happens when one’s beliefs about the nature of reality are challenged can be a very severe source of intense anxiety.

Throughout history, religions have gone to war to kill and die, to protect themselves from unbelievers whose unbelief challenges the legitimacy of their belief: The truth of their view of the world, the universe, and the gods.

Now, the ideology of Global Warming / Climate Change has take on a quasi-religious fervor with millions, and thousands of scientists and politicians among the true believers, the faithful.

They’ve painted themselves into a fundamentalist corner from which they cannot escape without conceding that their devout belief in anthropogenic Global Warming / Climate change is untrue, wrong; without conceding that their understanding of the world is wrong.

And that brings a huge loss of face, a huge embarrassment, a huge loss of credibility, and many will raise all possible defenses, even the absurd defense of prohibiting the thought crime, the heresy, of “denialism.”

As the climate fails to perform as the computer models have predicted, they will, slowly, and painfully, be dragged kicking and screaming back to reality.

Some will never make the journey.

The climate has been cycling between warming eras and cooling eras for millions of years, and is likely to continue to do so.
