With the temperature dropping to 0.9 C, the weather bureau said it was Adelaide’s coldest August morning since 1888.
It was also the coldest day Adelaide has experienced in any month in six years.
In fact, most of regional South Australia woke to cold and frost.
“Murray Bridge has had its coldest ever – coldest ever - start to the day in August at -2.7 degrees this morning,” said senior forecaster Mark Anolak
Severe frost fell in regional South Australia, including the Murraylands, Riverland, Mid North and North East Pastoral districts.
Yunta was one of the coldest spots, reaching -5.8C, only a day after recording a -6C minimum. The Riverland was also particularly icy, with the mercury dropping to -5.6C in Renmark, just above freezing in Lameroo and -3.9C in Loxton.
Meanwhile, parts of the Adelaide Hills received a “light dusting” of snow overnight ,
