Yes, you read that right, Death Valley broke old low maximum temperature by a whopping 15 degrees, nearly 30 degrees below average. The previous record of 104 was set in 1945.
This was only the eighth time that a high in the 80s has occurred in Death Valley in July or August, and there hasn’t been a high less than 90 since 1984. Weather records in Death Valley go back to 1911.
In fact, Death Valley was cooler than Missoula, Montana on Sunday
