Breaks snowfall record that has stood since 1888
17 Sep 2014 – Well so much for so-called Global Warming, in this part of the woods anyway. Last year we had 18 inches to three feet of snow, depending where you were in the Hills, from a storm that started Oct. 4, which pretty much put a halt to all activity. Cattle wet from the initial rain perished when temperatures dropped and snow drove them into low spots where they were buried and suffocated. Everyone thought Oct. 4 was a bit early for such a winter event and many were caught off guard.
Last Thursday it started snowing early in the morning and by daylight we had 7-9 inches of snow on the ground, again depending on where you lived in the Custer area. This time we broke a record that has stood since 1888 when records started to be kept, and made national news on such outlets as the Weather Channel and national and cable networks. It’s still summer, for crying out loud!
