“This one’s nothing compared to the one we’ll get next Tuesday/Wed for the South and East,” says reader Kenneth Lund.
Lows in the 20’s (F) into eastern South Carolina
“An even colder, secondary surge of arctic air is expected to arrive in this part of the country early next week as a strong upper level disturbance moves south across the Plains and Midwest, dragging an arctic front thru the SE next Monday night, followed by arctic high pressure building in behind the front at the surface. Highs remaining in the 40’s deep into the SE and lows in the 20’s into eastern SC as well.
“This first air mass will already be shoved into the mid Atlantic region Sat night as the second, stronger arctic high over Alberta begins to move SE. The coldest for the SE with the initial event will be Friday night (northerly flow) with freezing temps, but then temps moderate Sat night already as winds veer to the NE in response to the high pressure center moving into eastern VA/NC as low pressure takes shape in western Gulf states.
Colder and longer lasting next week
“The second arctic air mass behind the arctic front Monday night will be colder and longer lasting next week.
