Deadly snowstorm continues dumping snow across region.
Dozens of vehicles, including a bus carrying the Niagara University Purple Eagles women’s basketball team, were stranded, and even snow plows got stuck in the deep snow.
“It started to get bad fast at about 2 a.m. [Tuesday morning] and we came to a dead stop and haven’t moved since,” Niagara coach Kendra Faustin told The Associated Press in a phone interview Tuesday night.
Faustin described snow drifts higher than 6 feet that covered cars. Other motorists came aboard the bus seeking shelter and bonded with the team.
A crew of five people using two heavy-duty snowplows finally cleared a path to free the team’s bus, which finally started moving early today. The players were eventually able to leave the bus after being stranded for more than 24 hours.
