“There are some very significant cold and snowy blasts now almost a certainly in December,” says Piers Corbyn.
“We are expecting something similar to 2010 and 2011 with major snow events and sustained extreme cold expected through the month.”
“Major disruption at airports and on the country’s transport systems is inevitable and they should be prepared for this.
“We have the jet stream to thank for this which, due to solar activity, is meandering. It is about to open the doors to a blast of cold air from the north and will block milder conditions from the west.
“It will be mostly cold and snowy until just before Christmas and there are signs of some more extreme conditions after December, although there are huge variables on these models.”
