Traps about 300 passengers
16 Dec 2014 — The power outage halted services on parts of the Joetsu Shinkansen Line connecting Tokyo and Niigata for about six hours on Sunday, trapping about 300 passengers inside a bullet train.
JR East said heavy snow is believed to have accumulated on top of the Max Toki 300, a Tokyo-bound train which departed from Niigata, preventing pantographs from transmitting electricity from overhead wires to the train.
In total, around 20,000 passengers were affected.
