6,000 tourists stranded at snow-hit Manali, Shimla/Kullu

Electricity supply in the area remains “disrupted” for the second day after Sunday’s snowfall.

15 Dec 2014 – About 6,000 tourists were stranded in the India, Himachal, resort of Manali on Monday,

Land line phones have been out of order since Saturday evening, while mobile phone service is only partially operational.

A majority of the roads leading to the town of Manali remained closed to traffic, even as the Himachal Pradesh government used excavators to clear snow-laden roads.

Manali recorded 65cm (more than 2 ft) of snowfall and sub-zero night temperature on Sunday.
