Cold-related diseased break out in Barisal (Bangladesh)

Alarming intensity of cold weather is taking a heavy toll on lives in Barisal.

13 Jan 2015 – With the sharp dip in temperature, different cold-related diseases have broken out both in and outside the city. Almost all the district and upazila-level hospitals are now crammed with patients suffering various cold-related diseases.

Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital and district civil surgeon’s office sources said 310 people, including 85 children, were admitted to the hospitals in the last three days with the fall in temperature. And the number of patients is increasing every day.

A large number of people, especially children and aged people, have been attacked with pneumonia, diarrhea, skin and other cold-related diseases as a second cold spell is now sweeping Barisal.

The Met office recorded the minimum temperature here at 10.1 degrees Celsius in the last three days.
