Blizzard warning in effect for:

Îles-de-la-Madeleine

Blizzard conditions with occasionally near-zero visiblity in snow and blowing snow are expected on Tuesday.

A developing low pressure system over the U.S. Seaboard will intensify into a large storm as it moves slowly northeastward toward the Maritimes tonight and Tuesday. Heavy snow will develop overnight or Tuesday morning and spread northeastward during the day. Very strong northeast winds gusting to 100 km/h (62.1 mph) or possibly higher will give blizzard conditions with near-zero visibility on Tuesday. General snowfall amounts of 15 to 30 cm (5.9″ to 11.8″) are expected with locally higher amounts possible. Over parts of Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island snow will mix with or change to ice pellets later in the afternoon and in the evening.

Blizzard warnings in Quebec for the Akulivik, Inukjuak, Ivujivik, Puvirnituq and Salluit regions; winter storm warnings for the Forillon National Park – Gaspé area, Percé area, Chandler area and New Carlisle – Port-Daniel area (no amounts given) and extreme cold warnings for the Schefferville, Chibougamau, Alma – Desbiens area, Ashuapmushuan Wildlife Reserve area, Normandin – Péribonka area, Saint-Félicien – Roberval area, Apica Mountain area, Grands-Jardins Park area and l’Étape area with values down to -48 C (-54.4 F) in Schefferville and -40 C (-40 F) elsewhere.

Travel is expected to be hazardous due to reduced visibility. If you become stranded in a vehicle do not leave. The vehicle offers a form of protection from the cold. A single person walking through the snow is harder to find than a stranded car or truck. Ensure that shelter is provided for pets and outdoor animals.

Nunavut

Blizzard warnings for the Arviat and Sanikiluaq regions of Nunavut and extreme cold warnings for the Clyde River, Pond Inlet and Qikiqtarjuaq regions with wind chill values from -50 C to -55 C (-59 F to -67 F).
