Heavy snow meant that thousands of homes in Eastern Slovakia suffered power cuts. According to spokeswoman Jane Stredoslovenská of Energy Bolibruchová, electricity supply is interrupted for about 82 thousand households.
Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute (SHMÚ) today issued the warning of First Instance against flooding from melting snow and rain.
“Given the existing snow stocks in the river, warming and fallen precipitation are expected to cause the rise of water levels on rivers, with the possibility of achieving exceeding water levels corresponding to the degree of flood,” a meteorologist said.

According to the Center for Avalanche Prevention mountain rescue in Jasna the past 24 hours accounted for 20 to 40 cm, in the Low Tatras and forest zone slightly to 50 cm of new snow.
