Breaking records in Sweden – 113cm of snow in Luleå

The 113 cm (44.5 inches) of snow measured at Luleå airport in northern Sweden on Tuesday morning broke the town’s previous record of 111 cm set almost 50 years ago, in 1966.

Luleå was not alone. Bergnäset recorded its deepest snowfall since 2002, with 110 cm measured on Monday, while Gördalen in the Dalarna region currently tops the league with 143 cm (56 inches) of snow.

“They have got the most snow in Sweden right now. A couple of days ago they had as much as 151 cm,” said Alexandra Ohlsson.

The greatest snow depth record in Sweden ever reported was in 1926, when Kopparåsen in the far north, close to the Norwegian border, measured 327 cm of snow.
