7 Feb 2015: Since Thursday morning, it has been snowing continuously. In places like Abriès and Ristolas, there are just over 2 meters of snow, while more than 80 cm (32 inches) on average were deposited on the Upper Guil.

More than 2 meters of snow fell in the Queyras in two days.

Queyras has not seen snow like this since 2008. It is called a “return to East,” a terrible climate phenomenon that Queyras is familiar with, when from Italy comes a depression to the massif of Viso, resulting in very significant snowfall.

As a precaution, DR 947 leading to Ristolas was closed for the night as well as the road leading to the Abriès station.

Last night he risk of avalanche was increased to 5, the maximum risk, and should move to a risk level 4 (strong) on Saturday. The area has been classified orange alert by Météo France.
