Rare snow blankets parts of Israel, Jordan, Syria and Lebanon.
Twenty five centimeters (10 inches) of snow were dumped on the city, said Jerusalem municipality spokeswoman Brachie Sprung.
The snow forced closure of all roads leading in and out of Jerusalem, shut down the city’s light rail tram service and closed schools.
Snow capped the golden Dome of the Rock, dusted the Western Wall, and blanketed the Nativity Church in the West Bank town of Bethlehem.
The snow extended into the desert, sprinkling a layer of white over the Israeli towns of Dimona, Yerucham and Arad. Israeli TV broadcast scenes of camels in the snow.
In Jordan’s Zaatari refugee camp, tents collapsed under the weight of the snow, and children helped clear snow from the roofs of damaged tents.
The Syrian capital of Damascus and surrounding mountains were covered with snow, and in neighboring Lebanon, the snowstorm closed most mountain roads isolating dozens of villages. The snow even forced closure of the Beirut-Damascus highway.
In the Jordanian capital of Amman, snow paralyzed most streets.
