Reading and the surrounding region experienced record-setting snowfall this winter, says the Daily Times Chronicle.
Snowiest winter on record
Snowfall for the winter totaled 90.2 inches, 45.9 inches more than normal, setting a new record for the season.
Meanwhile, February snowfall totaled a whopping 55.7 inches, 43.5 inches more than normal and nearly double last year’s excessive February snow.
Coldest winter on record
As to cold, the average temperature was 24.4°F, some 4.5° colder than normal December 2014 through February 2015, which made this the coldest winter on record in spite of the mild December.
Coldest month on record
February was also the coldest month in 59 years of records-keeping, beating the 16.8°F recorded in January 1981.
Record spending
The town also set a record for snow-removal spending, says Reading Department of Public Works Director Jeff Zager.
