Birds and other wildlife in Atlantic Canada are at risk of starvation because of the “unusual” amount of snow,
the Sierra Club Canada Federation said Friday.
The harsh winter has prevented wildlife from finding insects and seeds they would normally eat this time of year, prompting the Sierra Club to issue an emergency appeal for help.
In the face of increasing climate change, the organization is changing their mandate to include mitigation for animals harmed by severe weather.
“These kinds of things don’t happen in isolation,” said John Bennett, the national program director of the Sierra Club.
Hope Swinimer, the founder of the Hope for Wildlife Society in the Halifax community of Seaforth, said people can help by shovelling holes in the snow to allow birds to look for food.
Shoveling holes in the snow so that birds can find food, and they still want to blame “climate change”? In today’s world, the words “climate change” are shorthand for “global warming.”
How blind can they be?
Yes, the climate is changing, but it’s not a result of human activity. It’s part of the ice-age cycle. We’d better wake up to that fact before we find ourselves digging holes in the snow in vain attempts to find food for ourselves.
