While some forecasts call for a long bitter winter for Britain, others are much more sanguine.
Accuweather, for example, thinks harsh cold will bypass both London and Paris.
However, with colder-than-normal water temperatures in the North Atlantic, Accuweather expects high temperatures to run below normal for much of the winter in Ireland and Scotland.
Meanwhile, it calls for storms to frequent Southern France into Italy and the Alps and for Scandinavia to be abnormally cold.
This could shatter hopes that the Paris Climate Conference might be snowed out.
