Hundreds of thousands could be at risk.
“After a few weeks of relative calm, Equador’s Cotopaxi Volcano appears to be getting more active,” says reader Andrew Stranglen. “It has also been reported that a night glow can be seen at the summit, indicating that a magmatic eruption could be days or weeks away, certainly more imminent.”
Cotopaxi Volcano is located about 50 km (30 miles)south of Quito, and about 33 km (18 miles) northeast of the city of Latacunga,
“Hundreds of thousands of people living south of the Ecuadorean capital, Quito, could be at risk from an eruption of the Cotopaxi volcano,” the BBC warned in August.
