Belgium – Coldest spring since 1962

Not only the coldest spring in 51 years, Belgium can also boast the wettest month of May in 29 years, according to Belgian Met Office KMI.

And there’s more: the month of May had mostly chilly weather, making it the coldest since 1996.

Five successive months with cold temperatures

The first 5 months of this year were also too cold, the Belgian Met Office points out. Looking at average temperatures going back to 1833, the past five months were “quite exceptional.”

The last time Belgium was confronted with a long cold spell like this was in 1979.
