8 Feb 2016 – Blizzards and strong winds hit Siberia, surprising motorists and forcing closure of two highways in the Altai region. The restrictions were imposed due to poor visibility and strong crosswinds, gusts reached 27 meters per second.
Krasnoyarsk region:
A deadly accident occurred on the highway “Krasnoyarsk Yenisei.” Five people were killed, another woman was taken to hospital.
Altai region:
In Barnaul, two children were injured while in an ambulance, which for as yet unknown reason ran off the roadway. The boys, one 4 years old, the other 2.
Novosibirsk region:
A passengers bus hit a snowdrift on the highway in Kazakhstan, from which they could not get out of the buses, passenger cars and people.
After a herculean rescue operation, 80 people were evacuated and taken to the nearest village where they could keep warm.
