Approximately 47,300 homes lost power in Normandy due to snowfall that hit the north and west of France.
North Cotentin is particularly affected. At 3:30 p.m., there had fallen to 25 cm of snow with gusts up to 100 km/hr on the coast and Météo France provides up to 40 cm in places with snowfall expected overnight and the Tuesday morning.
The A84 was closed in both directions for vehicles over 7.5 tonnes in the Manche and Calvados.
Seine-Maritime prefecture had received includes 15 to 25 cm of snow on Monday night, with locally 30 cm.
Comparable to a blizzard
By late afternoon snowfall between Normandy and Nord-Pas-de-Calais had generated power outages at tens of thousands of homes. With a northeast wind in excess of 100 km/hr but more generally between 60 and 80 km/hr, many snow drifts were reported on the northern department of Manche and the reliefs of northern Britain … comparable to a blizzard.
Monday afternoon, Météo France has placed 11 new departments in orange alert snow / ice, including the Paris region, bringing to 25 the number of departments.
Between Monday and Tuesday “snowfall will continue and intensify. They will gradually involve all departments placed orange alert and snow will thicken. ”
France provides weather by Tuesday morning “from 20 to 30 cm of snow on the Channel, Calvados, west of the Eure and Seine-Maritime,” “10 to 20 cm of snow on the Orne, the is the Eure, the Somme, the Oise and the Aisne much “and” generally on the order of 5 cm to 10 cm, locally 15 cm, the Nord Pas de Calais, south- of the Aisne, the Val d’Oise, Yvelines north, north-west of the Eure-et-Loir, and in the Côtes-d’Armor. ”
