Could bring travel disruption and power outages.
STV’s Sean Batty said: “The very unsettled weather theme is set to continue through Christmas week with further spells of heavy rain, snow and strong winds.
“Some parts of the Highlands have already seen several centimetres of snow over the last 24 hours. More snow is expected for a time during Monday afternoon….”
Blizzard-like conditions
“A few centimetres of snow can be expected at lower levels on Christmas Eve with 10-20cm over higher levels. With the strong winds, this will lead to the blowing of lying snow on higher routes and blizzard-like conditions. The strongest winds on Christmas Eve can be expected around central, western and northern parts of the country, where gusts of wind could reach over 70mph over inland areas and in excess of 80mph around coastal areas and the Hebrides.
“These weather conditions are likely to lead to disruption for transport and also a possibility of power outages, which could have an impact on the public’s preparations Christmas Day.”
