Dec 31, 2013 – At just 2.4 C (36 F) and 5 degrees C below normal, Delhi not only recorded the lowest December temperature in the last 17 years, it was colder than many European cities, including London, Copenhagen, Brussels and Amsterdam.
It was only colder than this on a December day in 1996 when the mercury dropped to 2.3 degrees C and 1.5 degrees in 1973 if we take in account the last 50 years. Many in Gurgaon and Narela noticed a thin layer of frost on cars and plants on Monday morning.
“This cold wave and frosty condition is not only limited to Delhi but also in parts of Haryana, Rajasthan, Punjab and UP,” IMD director BP Yadav said. Hisar in Haryana shivered at 0.8 degrees C and Churu in Rajasthan -1 degrees C.
