Weather summary for Southern Ontario and the National Capital Region issued by Environment Canada

Record cold morning at some locales across Southern Ontario.

A bitterly cold Arctic airmass, that was ushered across Southern Ontario with the new year, has become entrenched across the region. Under mainly clear skies, temperatures plummeted to well below minus 20C (-4F) across many areas, with quite a few locales near and east of Georgian Bay to the Pembroke area reporting frigid minimum temperatures colder than minus 30C (-22F).

Kitchener -23.0C (-9.4F) (previous record -22.3C (-8.1F) in 1981)
Hamilton -21.8C (-7.2F) (previous record -21.6C (-6.9F) in 1981)
Oshawa -26.3C (-15.3F) (previous record -26.0C (-14.8F) in 1981)
North Bay Airport -39.3C (-38.7F) (previous record -37.7C (-35.9F) in 1981)
Earlton Airport -43.7C (-46.7F) (previous record -41.2C (-42.2F) in 1981)
