Yet another brutal winter storm headed for Plains, Midwest, Northeast

Starting with heavy snow in the Plains before moving east, yet another in a seemingly endless string of winter storms could lead to treacherous ice accumulations this weekend from Ohio to Washington, D.C. to New York, and as far south as Tennessee and Kentucky, experts predict.

With blizzard warnings in effect Thursday night for parts of Montana, the storm was expected to drop 5 to 10 inches of snow from Montana and Idaho south to Colorado and Utah, the National Weather Service said.

Over the weekend, as much as half a foot of heavy snow is expected in Kansas City, Missouri, St. Louis and Des Moines, Iowa, moving to New York and Boston by Monday.

Heavy snow across the entire Northeast threatens to snarl the Monday-morning commute in Philadelphia, Baltimore and Washington, D.C., according to The Weather Channel.

Depending on which way the storm moves, it could coat streets, trees and power lines of major cities like Indianapolis, Cincinnati and Columbus, Ohio with a dangerous layer of ice.

“This is more likely than not to be a pretty big snow storm,” said Greg Postel, a severe weather specialist for The Weather Channel.
