At International Falls, the high temperature of -9 F (-22.8C) on March 1st – the high temperature! – broke the record for the coldest high temperature for any day in March. The old record was -7 F (-21.7C) set on the 23rd in 1974.
The high temperature at Duluth on March 1st was -2 F degrees (-19C). This is the coldest high temperature on record for a March 1st. The old record was -1 in 1943.
Also, this is the 2nd coldest high temperature on record for the month of March. The record coldest maximum temperature ever recorded at Duluth for the month of March was -4 F (-20C) on the 23rd in 1974.
