Cold weather stalls maple syrup season

Arrrrrg!!! Maple syrup is my comfort food!

“Across Canada, the usual mid-March maple syrup harvest appears to be on hold,” says CTV News. “That’s because the cold won’t let up and forecasters say they can’t see yet when it will.”

The maple-syrup-harvesting season (sugaring season) lasts only about six to eight weeks. But in order to get the sap to flow, temperatures need to go above freezing during the days and below freezing at night. This year, Mother Nature is not co-operating.”

Arrrrrg!!! I was born and raised in Vermont, and for one wonderful year actually lived on a farm with a working  sugarhouse. Every day when I came home from school I’d find a bowl of vanilla ice cream smothered – and I mean smothered! – in maple syrup.

There’s only one reason to eat pancakes: You can cut them into one-inch squares so that the sides will absorb more syrup. My wife thinks I’m nuts, but I can pour maple syrup into a glass and drink it straight.

I mean, Mother Nature is going too far this time.
