About 18 inches (46 cm) of snow had fallen at the National Weather Service’s South Burlington office as of 6 a.m. Thursday, according to the Burlington Free Press.
Other areas around the state received even more snow, with 26 inches (66 cm) in Sharon and 24 inches (61 cm) in East Roxbury.
The weather service had forecast snowfall rates of about 1-2 inches an hour in the northern Adirondack Mountains of New York, the Champlain Valley and across central and northern Vermont, including the Northeast Kingdom.
It could be the biggest snowfall of the season.
