Chicago had already been buried by 75.5 inches of snow this winter, the fourth most on record dating back to 1884-85.

Wednesday’s snow (on Mar 13th) of about 6 inches pushed the seasonal total into third place, ahead of the 77-inch total from 1969-70.

The storm was likely to move the Detroit area close to the 133-year-old seasonal snow-total record of 93.6 inches set in 1880-81, the weather service said.

Is the start of spring really just a week away?
