What have I been telling you about stockpiling food?

Frost killed to date 50,000 cattle in Beni and an additional half a million cattle in the eastern region are affected by floods. The price of meat doubled, rising from two to four bolivianos per kilo, depending on the cut and quality.

Meat marketers in La Paz have declared an emergency. “We are in a state of emergency, because the price of meat hooked up last weekend,” said the leader of the Federation of Butchers of La Paz , Jose Luis Ramos.

The general manager of the Federation of Livestock Beni(FEGABENI), Carmelo Arteaga explained that the rise in price is because in Beni, one of the largest meat producing regions, frost killed about 50,000 livestock. This is in addition to the 450 000 cattle that were killed in the floods of February.
