A swath of snow could soon stretch for more than 2,000 miles across the United States, from the Cascades and Northern Rockies across the Midwest and into the Northeast, with easily over a foot of Lake effect snow in some areas, says the Weather Channel.
Snowfall totals as of 4 a.m. PST Monday already include 17 inches at Wyoning’s Jackson Hole Mountain; 7 inches near Ski Bluewood in Washington; and 15.7 inches near Idaho’s Pine Creek Pass.
On Tuesday, some light snow is expected for the morning commute in Philadelphia, Baltimore and Washington, D.C., perhaps even a light dusting in New York City..
In the northern Rockies, snowfall totals could exceed 2 feet in a few spots.
East of the Rockies, snowfall could top 6 inches from southeast South Dakota through a good chunk of Iowa and parts of Illinois, including Chicago.
Near-blizzard conditions are possible from southeast Montana through parts of South Dakota, Nebraska and Iowa.
