Snowstorm sweeps Slovenia

Red alert presently in western Slovenia and tomorrow will be declared throughout the country.

The most severe snowstorm this winter hits western Slovenia, with winds of 100 miles per hour to sweep the region Karst.

Schools have been closed and early in the morning, trucks were denied passage from the border crossings with Italy, Croatia and Hungary, and restricted their movement on roads to avoid accumulation of heavy vehicles in emergency lanes.

In addition, the national motorway company DARS has announced that it will issue a complete ban of trucks across the country, if the snowfall intensified.

Schools remained closed to Aintovtsina municipalities and Vipava, as well as day care centers and public institutions because of fear that people will not be able to return to their homes in the afternoon, as expected worsening weather and further strengthening of the winds that would blow with a speed of 140 kilometers per hour.

Meteorologists predict continued snowfall and tomorrow and that the amount of snow will reach more than 70 centimeters in some areas.
