Heavy snowfall for U.S.  Southeast

Higher elevations northeast of Atlanta could see up to a foot.


A juicy winter storm is poised to deliver heavy rain and snow from Georgia to Maryland, The Washington Post warned yesterday.

Georgia forecast-25Feb2015Winter storm warnings and winter weather advisories have been issued across the Southeast and into the Mid-Atlantic covering more than 300,000 square miles and impacting more than 47 million people.

Snowfall totals up to 5 inches are in the forecast from northern Mississippi to Georgia, while higher elevations northeast of Atlanta could see up to a foot.

Snow and ice began to accumulate quickly from Arkansas to northern Alabama on Wednesday morning as the storm tracked east.

Georgia governor Nathan Deal declared a state of emergency for 50 counties in north Georgia.
