A potent winter storm tracking northeast was expected to impact North Carolina the worst, with snowfall totals approaching a foot (30 cm) in some locations across the northeastern part of the state.

The National Weather Service was forecasting 4 to 8 inches of snow for the Raleigh metro, increasing to the north.

Meanwhile, Richmond, Virginia was looking at 3 to 6 inches of snow through Thursday afternoon, with similar totals expected in Norfolk, Virginia.
