Snowiest February on record in Huntsville

Some 8.1 inches of snow fell in Huntsville on Wednesday, making it the snowiest February day on record in Huntsville, and the snowiest month of February on record with 8.7 inches, according to the weather service.

The previous record snowfall for a day in February was 8 inches on Feb. 15, 1958.making yesterday the second-snowiest day in the city’s history.

The only day that Huntsville has seen more snow than on Wednesday was Dec. 31, 1963, when 15.7 inches fell, the weather service said.

Elsewhere around north Alabama, snow totals were staggering, with three locations in Marshall County reporting 11 (28 cm) or more inches of snow.
