Temperatures at Mt. Doom’s Crater Lake doubled from 25C to 45C in just a few weeks.
Lake is also showing huge increase of both carbon dioxide and sulphur dioxide.
Tourists and hikers are being warned to stay clear from Mt. Doom (Ruapehu), which last erupted six years ago.
“The increased gas output coupled with high heat flow and volcanic tremor imply a higher likelihood of activity,” said volcanologist Geoff Kilgour.
This article describes Mt Ruapehu as “colossus.”
