Extreme wind chills for parts of Manitoba, Nunavut, Ontario and Saskatchewan

Some AGW believers insist that the reason the “polar vortex” has reached so far into the United States deep south this year is because it’s so warm in the Arctic.

So I wonder. Do they think minus 45C to minus 55C (-49F to -67F) is warm?

MANITOBA

Wind chill warning for Brochet, Gillam, Lynn Lake – Leaf Rapids – Pukatawagan, Shamattawa, Tadoule Lake, Thompson – Nelson House – Split Lake regions

Another surge of Arctic air tonight into Wednesday combined with winds of 30 km/h (18.6 mph) will produce extreme wind chills of minus 45C to minus 55C (-49F to -67F) across much of Northern Manitoba overnight into Wednesday morning. At these extreme wind chill values frostbite on exposed skin may occur in less than 5 to 10 minutes.

Over the Churchill and York regions..Northwest winds of 40 to 60 km/h (24.9 to 37.3 mph) overnight into Wednesday are expected to produce blizzard conditions with frequent visibilities of 400 metres (1312′) or less. Visibilities should improve through the afternoon into the evening.

NUNAVUT

Wind chill warning for Cambridge Bay, Resolute and Taloyoak regions

The combination of a low pressure system over Hudson Bay and a ridge of high pressure over the Beaufort Sea is continuing to bring northwesterly winds of 30 to 40 km/h (18.6 to 24.9 mph). Blizzard conditions will redevelop in Gjoa Haven as winds strengthen this evening. Conditions will improve Wednesday morning.

Temperatures in the minus thirties and the strong winds will give extreme wind chill values near or below minus 55C (-67F) in Gjoa Haven, Taloyoak and Cambridge Bay tonight. Wind chill values will improve in Gjoa Haven and Taloyoak Wednesday as temperatures rise into the minus twenties. In Cambridge Bay minus 55C (-67F) wind chills are forecast to continue into Thursday.

At these extreme wind chill values frostbite on exposed skin may occur in less than 2 minutes.

Wind chill values near minus 30C (-22F) late tonight into Wednesday morning.

Very cold Arctic air is once again becoming well entrenched over Southern Ontario with the passage of a cold front. Temperatures are expected to fall to near minus 20C (-4F) in many areas tonight accompanied by winds of up to 20 km/h (12.4 mph). This will result in wind chill values close to minus 30C (-22F) late tonight into Wednesday morning. The extreme cold will ease during the day Wednesday as temperatures climb.

Anyone venturing outdoors, especially for an extended period, should dress accordingly with as little exposed skin as possible.

SASKATCHEWAN

Wind chill warning for Fond-du-Lac – Stony Rapids, Southend – Brabant Lake – Kinoosao and Wollaston Lake – Collins Bay regions

Extreme wind chill values overnight.

Overnight lows of mid minus thirties and wind of 15 to 20 km/h (9.2 to 12.4 mph) will generate extreme wind chill values below minus 45C (-49F) overnight. Wind chill values will rise tomorrow morning as the temperature warms. At these extreme wind chill values frostbite on exposed skin may occur in less than 10 minutes.
