The temperature in both Saranac Lake and Lake Placid plunged to minus 29 (-34 C) this morning, according to the National Weather Service in Burlington, Vt.

For Lake Placid, the previous record for St. Patrick’s Day was minus 10 (-23 C) in 1981.

In Saranac Lake, the prior record was minus 8 (-22 C) last year.
