Buffalo shatters snowfall record set in 1959

Wednesday’s record snowfall breaks the old record for March 12 of 7.3 inches set in 1959. It also brings the total snowfall of the season to 120.6 inches, more than 20 inches above average.

The official snowfall at the weather station in Cheektowaga was 13.8 inches, although some communities such as Warsaw in Wyoming County recorded 15 inches and others in northern Niagara County got a foot and half.

(I’m assuming that Buffalo’s official measuring location is in Cheektowaga, which means that this new record almost doubled the previous record. I think that qualifies as “shatters.”)
