Ranchers are worried because they’re getting close to calving season - 31 inches (79 cm) so far in February.

“At the end of December there had been worries about the snowpack in the Bitterroot with averages running below 100% [of normal]. Not now – the snow totals have soared to 144% [of normal] in less than a month. In fact, this is more the kind of month you would expect in a La Nina year, not when the ocean temperatures are neutral.”
